MG has launched its flagship SUV, the Gloster, at an introductory price of ₹28.98 lakh going all the way upto ₹35.38 lakh. This launch price is only applicable for the first 2000 bookings. With this model, MG is introducing autonomous driver assistance system (ADAS level 1) and a twin-turbo engine in the Indian market.
Powering the Gloster is a 1996cc mill available with two options, a single turbo producing
161bhp and 375Nm of peak torque and a segment leading twin-turbo motor capable of
producing 215bhp and 480Nm of peak torque, both mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox.
The top two variants, Sharp and Savvy, also have 4WD capabilities aided by a dedicated rear
differential and BorgWarner transfer case. An electronic shift-on-the-fly technology enables
them with seven different driving modes, called ‘Snow’, ‘Mud’, ‘Sand’, ‘Eco’, ‘Sport’, ‘Normal’
and ‘Rock’.
It is also loaded with features like 64-color ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, driver’s seat
massager, a 12-way electronically adjustable driver seat and i-SMART 2.0 which comes with
over 70 connected car features.
But the biggest USP of Gloster lies in the inclusion of autonomous level 1 features (ADAS)
which include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning,
automatic parking assist and adaptive cruise control.
During the launch, MG Motor also introduced a personalized car ownership program called “MY
MG SHIELD” with over 200 after-sales service options to choose from. Under this, Gloster
customers can further customize their ownership packages as per their requirements and will be
extended ₹50,000 which can be redeemed as per their unique after-sales requirement.
MG Gloster will rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4 and the new Skoda Kodiaq.
Can it dethrone the Toyota? Only time will tell.
